This lesson is written for my favorite Astronout André Kuipers,

who goes to space station ISS for half a year in 2011.

For this tutorial you need Animation Shop (AS)

a gold pattern of your choice

and the following plugins:

Filters Unlimited 2.0 - Edges, Square

Greg's Factory Output Vol.II - Pool Shadow

VM Natural - Sparkle

It contains: 2 tube - 2 pictures.

 

The tubes are by Elvira, from the site of NASA and found by Google.

Step 1

Open the tubes and the pictures in PSP - minimize them for now.

Set your foreground color to #23245c.

Set your background color to black (#000000).

Set your background also to your gold pattern - Angle 0 - Scale 100.

Open a transparent image of 800 x 675 pixels.

Flood fill your image with your background color.

Step 2

Copy tube '30dor_hst'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

(When you use a smaller image:

Selections - Select all - Paste into the selection.)

Set the Opacity of this layer to 22.

Step 3

Layers - New raster layer.

Activate your Selection tool - rectangle - see image below:

Open image 03307a4_400 in PSP.

Promote the background to layer.

Effects - Plugins - Filters Unlimited 2.0 - Edges, Square - Square Edge 17.

Edit - Copy.

Paste as a new layer on your working image,

Set the Opacity of this layer to 54.

Selections - Select nont.

Effects - Plugins - Greg's Factory Output Vol.II - Pool Shadow - default settings.

Step 4

Copy tube 'astronout5'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Mirror.

Image - Resize - 125% - All layers not checked - repeat 1x.

If you use an other tube, you may have to adjust the resize.

Place it right below.

Step 5

Copy tube 'saturn'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Resize - 50% - All layers not checked.

If you use an other tube, you may have to adjust the resize.

Layers - Merge - Merge all (Flatten).

Step 6

Image - Add borders - 2 pixels - foreground color.

Image - Add borders - 7 pixels - blackground color.

Image - Add borders 15 pixels - foreground color.

Select this border with your Magic wand.

Copy image '30dor_hst' again.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Place it in the selection.

Selections - Invert - Press Delete.

Selections - Select none.

(When you use a smaller image:

Selections - Select all - Paste into the selection.)

Step 7

Image - Add borders - 4 pixels - background color.

Set your background to a gold pattern (or a pattern at your choice) - close your foreground color.

Activate your Text tool - find a nice font and type your text.

Effects - 3D effects - Drop shadow:

Vert and Hor 1 - Opacity 100 - Blur 2 - black.

Image - Add borders - 1 pixel - foreground color.

Image - Add borders - 8 pixels - background color.

Select this border with your Magic wand.

Effects - Plugins - VM Natural - Sparkle - with these settings:

Selections - Select none.

Edit - Copy.

To AS: Edit - Paste - As a new animation.

Step 8

Back to PSP.

Edit - Undo.

Effects - Plugins - VM Natural - Sparkle - set Random Seed to 80.

Edit - Copy.

To AS: Edit - Paste - After current frame.

Step 9

Back to PSP.

Edit - Undo.

Effects - Plugins - VM Natural - Sparkle - set Random Seed to 100.

Edit - Copy.

To AS: Edit - Paste - After current frame.

Step 10

You now stay in AS.

Edit - Select all.

Animation - Resize - at your choice.

View - Animation.

You now can see how your animation looks.

If you are satisfied:

Save your crea as a Gif file and you're done!
