This lesson was made in PSP X2, but can also be made in the other versions.

 

For this lesson you need Animation Shop (AS)

and the following plugins:

All the materials I have edited myself.

The pictures I have taken from the Internet.

The animations from Peter Pan and Thinkerbell I took from the INternet, but I don't know who made them.

The copyright is ofcourse with Walt Disney, both of the pictures and the animations.

 

** Step 1 **

Open the tubes in PSP - minimize them for now.

Open a transparent image of 500 x 350 pixels.

Flood fill your image with color #fafff6.

Effects - Plugins - DC Special - Book - with these settings:

Activate your Freehand selection.

Remove at the top and bottom in the center of the edge little peace - see image below:

 

** Step 2 **

Activate your Magic wand - Tolerance 0.

Select the edge around the book.

Set your foreground color to #4c5222.

Set your background color to #e6e8a1.

Set your foreground to gradient 'Foreground-background' - Linear - Angle 145 - Repeats 4 - Invert not checked.

 

** Step 3 **

Layers - New raster layer.

Flood fill the selection with your gradient.

Effects - Plugins - Cybia - ScreenWorks - Close Knit - default settings.

Selections - Select none.

Layers - Merge - Merge down.

Select the book part (both pages without the edge).

Effects - Plugins - Fantastic Machine - PaintEngine - with these settings:

Selections - Select none.

Effects - Plugins - Adjust - Variation - click darker 1x .

 

** Step 4 **

Copy tube 'Peter-Pan-scene'.

Select the left page of the book.

Layers - New raster layer.

Paste into the selection.

Selections - Select none.

Image - Resize - 90% - All layers not checked.

 

** Step 5 **

Open tube 'Peter_Pan'.

Image - Mirror - Copy.

Select about half of the right page of the book.

Paste into the selection.

Selections - Select none.

Lower the Opacity of this layer to 90.

 

** Step 6 **

Copy tube 'tinkerbell'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Resize - 3x 80% - All layers not checked.

Place the image upper right in the corner of the book - see main image.

Activate your Araser - Hardness 20 - Opacity 10.

Erase a little of the dark.

Lower the Opacity of this layer to 75.

 

** Step 7 **

Activate your Text tool - font Cambria - Size 26 - Make as vector - Strokewidth 0.

Set your foreground color to #b0d59d.

Set your background color to #3f3d49.

Set your background to gradient 'Foreground-background' - Linear - Angle 180 - Repeats 1.

Type: Peter Pan in Neverland.

Layers - Convert vector layer to raster layer.

Effects - 3D effects - Drop shadow - with these settings:

Vert and Hor - 1 (minus 1) - Opacity 100 - Blur 1 - color #d5c182.

Layers - Merge - Merge visible.

Minimize this image for now.

The beginning of the book is ready :-)

 

** Step 8 **

Set your foreground color to #4c5222.

Set your background color to #e6e8a1.

Set your foreground to gradient - Sunburst - Repeats 0.

Copy tube 'Peter-Pan-back'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Resize - 80% - All layers not checked.

Place him in the left corner.

Lower the Opacity of this layer to 70.

Set the Blend mode of this layer to Luminance (L).

 

** Step 9 **

Copy tube 'Peter-Pan-hook'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Mirror.

Image - Resize - 80% - All layers not checked.

Place him in the upper left corner.

Lower the Opacity of this layer to 85.

Set the Blend mode of this layer to Luminance (L).

 

** Step 10 **

Copy tube 'Peter-Pan-scene1'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Place him in the upper right corner.

Lower the Opacity of this layer to 80.

Set the Blend mode of this layer to Luminance (L).

 

** Step 11 **

Copy tube 'wendytinkelpeter'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Resize - 4x 80% - All layers not checked.

Set the Opacity of this layer to 75.

Set the Blend mode of this layer to Luminance (L).

Place them right below.

Layers - Merge - Merge all (Flatten).

 

** Step 12 **

Maximize the book - Edit - Copy.

Paste as a new layer on the background you just made.

Image - Resize - 80% - All layers not checked.

Place the book right below.

 

** Step 13 **

Now you are going to try to turn the pages.

It's quite a chore, so save your work regularly as a PSP file.

Back to the layer with the book.

Activate your Selection tool - Feather 0.

Select the right page (only the page, without the edges).

Copy - Paste (on the new layer) into the selection.

Selections - Select none.

Activate your Mesh warp tool - Horizontal 8 - Vertical 11.

Now pull up slightly on the right side at the top of the page - see image below:

Do the same with the bottom - see image below:

The page look like this:

If you are satisfied with the result - click Add (checkmark in the upper left corner of PSP).

 

** Step 14 **

Press 1x the letter 'K' ((PSP 9 it is 'M') Move tool).

Pull the page a little to the left - name this layer right 1.

You are moving the page every time little by little to the left until you reach the middle of the book.

Duplicate this page - pull it a little further to the left - name this layer right 2.

Duplicate this page again - pull it a little further to the left.

Below you can see some examples below:

Repeat until you reach the middle of the book.

Don't forget to name the layers, that will make it a lot easier later with the animation!

If you are at the middle of the book, press the letter 'M' to get your Move tool.

 

** Step 15 **

Activate the book layer.

Layers - New raster layer.

Back to the book layer.

Activate your Selection tool - Rectangle - Feather 0.

Select the left page.

Copy the selection.

Activate the raster layer - paste into the selection.

Selections - Select none.

 

** Step 16 **

View - Animation.

You now can see how your animation looks.

If you are satisfied:

Save your crea as a gif file and you're done!
