This lesson was made in PSP X2, but can also be made in the other versions.

 

For this lesson you need Animation Shop (AS)

and the following plugins:

Alien Skin - Eye Candy 5: Textures - Wood

Graphics Plus - Cross Shadow

It contains: 6 tubes - 1 animation.

 

Some knowledge of PSP is needed to make this lesson.

 

** Step 1 **

Open the tubes in PSP - minimize them for now.

Open a transparent image of 680 x 500 pixels.

Flood fill your image with black.

Activate your Selection tool - Rectangle - Feather 0.

Draw a rectangle in the left part of your image.

Set your foreground to gradient - Sunburst - Angle 0 - Repeats 0 - Invert checked.

Flood fill the selection with this gradient.

Selections - Select none.

 

** Step 2 **

Copy tube 'pumpkinonstair01'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Resize - 80% - All layers not checked - repeat 1x.

Place it right below, the edge of the image against the edge - see main image.

 

** Step 3 **

Copy tube 'halloween01'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Resize - 80% - All layers not checked.

Place this one on the left, so that the two candles are visible.

Activate your Selection tool - Rectangle.

Select the part that which falls over the stairs.

Press delete.

Selections - Select none.

Set the Opacity of this layer to 70.

Layers - Merge - Merge visible.

 

** Step 4 **

Copy tube 'myoldpiano'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Resize - 80% - All layers not checked.

Place it on the left side, so that the straight bar connect to the stairs.

Activate your Selection tool - Feather 0 - select the bar.

Adjust - Hue and saturation - Colorize:

Selections - Select none.

Effects - 3D Effects - Drop shadow - default settings.

 

** Step 5 **

Layers - Duplicate - repeat 2x.

You now have 4 layers.

Name them: piano1, piano2, piano3 and piano4.

Close the layers 'piano 1 t/m 3'.

Activate layer 'piano 4'.

Zoom in to about 300% so you can see the keys better.

Activate your Free hand selection - Point to point - Feather and Fluent 0 - Mode to Add or hold the Shift key.

Select 3 keys of the key board:

With your Burn tool:

with these settings:

Go a few time carefully along the edge of the selection of one of the keys you selected - see image below:

 

** Step 6 **

Close 'piano4' layer.

Open and activate layer 'piano3'.

Repeat your Burn tool - same settings as before.

Close 'piano3' layer.

Open and activate layer 'piano 2'.

Repeat again your Burn tool - same settings as before.

Selections - Select none.

 

** Step 7 **

Activate your bottom layer.

Add your watermark or name on the right side.

Duplicate this layer.

Activate your Free hand selection - Point to point - Feather 3 - Fluent 0 - Mode to Add.

Select the eyes of the pig and the pompelmoen.

Adjust - Brightness and contrast - Brightness/contrast - Brightness 50 - Contrast 0.

Duplicate this layer again.

Repeat: Adjust - Brightness and contrast - Brightness/contrast - Brightness 50 - Contrast 0.

Selections - Select none.

For convenience, number the layers: the bottom layer to 1 - the second layer to 2 and the third layer to 3.

 

** Step 8 **

Activate tube 'pumpkinonstair01'.

Copy the hand.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Canvas size - Width 100 - High 250:

Layers - Duplicate.

Activate your Mes Warp tool:

with these settings:

Pull the fingers of the hand slightly up by pulling up the bottom lines:

If you are satisfied, click once on the V mark in the upper left corner

Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

Save your crea as a PSP file or Animation Shop file.

Give it the name 'hand01'.

Set the Opacity of both layers to 50.

Save again as 'hand02'.

ps: if it really doesn't succeed, the hand animation is also in the zip, but it seems fun to me to try it yourself first.

 

** Step 9 **

Back to your main image:

Activate your top layer.

Layers - New raster layer.

Selections - Select all (I had to Invert the selection in order to crop).

Press Shift+R at the same time, now everything is nice and straight cropped.

Selections - Select all.

Selections - Modify - Contract - 15 pixels.

Selections - Invert.

Flood fill the selection with your background color.

Effects - Plugins - Alien Skin Eye Candy 5: Textures - Wood.

Click on Settings - choose 'Redwood'.

Click on Basic - with these settings:

Pulp color: #8c3a1f - Bark color: #582715.

 

** Step 10 **

Effects - 3D Effects - Inner bevel - 'Groove' - with these settings:

Effects - Plugins - Graphics Plus - Cross Shadow - default settings.

Selections - Select none.

 

** Step 11 **

Open Animation Shop (AS).

Open in AS the 2 hand animations.

Hand01: select both frames.

Edit - Copy.

Select the last frame - paste after current frame.

Select the last frame again and again paste after current frame.

Animations - Resize - 80%.

Repeat this with hand02, so you have also 6 frames.

With hand02: Edit - Select all (Ctrl+A).

Animation - Mirror.

Animations - Resize - 80% - repeat 1x.

 

** Step 12 **

Back to PSP.

Open the layers 1, the frame layer and piano1.

Edit - Copy merged.

To AS: Edit - Paste - As a new animation.

Back to PSP.

Close layer 1 and piano1.

Open layer 2 and piano2 - Edit - Copy merged.

To AS: Edit - Paste - After current frame

Back to PSP.

Close layer 2 and piano2.

Open layer 3 and piano1 - Edit - Copy merged.

To AS: Edit - Paste - After current frame.

 

** Step 13 **

Back to PSP.

Close the layers 3 and piano1.

Open layer 2 and piano3 - Edit - Copy merged.

To AS: Edit - Paste - After current frame.

Back to PSP.

Close the layers 2 and piano3.

Open layer 1 and piano1 - Edit - Copy merged.

To AS: Edit - Paste - After current frame.

Back to PSP.

Close the layer piano1 - Open piano4 - Edit - Copy merged.

To AS: Edit - Paste - After current frame

 

** Step 14 **

Edit - Select all (CTRL+A).

Make sure that frame 1 is in front of you.

Activate hand01 animation - Edit - Select all (CTRL+A).

Back to your image.

Edit - Paste - In selected frame.

Place the hand on the handrail of the stairs

Activate hand02 animaton.

Click above in the toolbar on this icon:

Select the bottom - as shown below:

Click on Crop:

Edit - Copy (Ctrl+C).

Back to your image.

Edit - Paste - In selected frame.

Please be careful about where you put the fingers of the hand, so that it just seems like they are on the keys.

 

** Step 15 **

Open the 'candle' in AS.

Edit - Select all (Ctrl+A) - Edit - Copy (Ctrl+C).

Activate your image.

Edit - Paste - in selected frame.

Place it on the front, red candle.

Change the size of the candle by 70%.

Edit - Copy.

 

** Step 16 **

Back to your image.

Edit - Paste - In selected frame.

Place it on the candle in the back on the right side.

Edit - Paste again - in selected frame.

Place it on the candle on the left side.

 

** Step 17 **

Open 'spin1' in AS.

Select frame nos: 6, 7, 8 and 9 - press delete.>

Edit - Select all (Ctrl+A) - Edit - Copy (Ctrl+C).

Back to your image.

Edit - Paste - In selected frame.

Place the spider web on the handrail of the stairs.

Animation - Frame properties - 25.

If necessary, resize your image and save it as a Gif file.
