For this lesson you need Animation Shop

and the following plugins:

Filters Unlimited 2.0 - Distortion Filters

VM Extravaganza - Shoutin'!...

you can download the materials.

It contains: 7 tubes - 1 preset shape - 1 picture - 1 gold pattern - 2 plugins - 1 animation - 1 font.

Place the 'goudenster' in your Picture tube folder.

Place the preset shape in your Preset shape folder.

Place the gold pattern in your Pattern folder.

Import the plugins in Filters Unlimited 2.0.

Open the font and minimize it.

 

The tubes are by Liza/Linda, MBR and Sandi.

Step 1

Open the tubes in PSP - minimize them for now.

Set your foreground color to #790311 (or at your choice).

Set your background color to #000000 (or at your choice).

Set your foreground to gradient 'Foreground-background' -

Linear - Angle 45 - Repeats 1 - Invert checked.

Open a transparent image of 300 x 300 pixels.

Step 2

Activate you Selection tool - Circle - Feather 0 - Anti alias checked.

Start in the middle of your image.

Make a circle of 150 x 150 pixels.

Flood fill the circle with your gradient.

DON'T DESELECT!

Step 3

Effects - Artistic effects - Balls and bubbles - with these settings:

Set the color of Material to #520411.

DON'T DESELECT!

Step 4

Set your background to pattern 'gold_embrossed_bg' - Angle 0 - Scale 100.

Layers - New raster layer.

Flood fill this layer with your gold pattern.

DON'T DESELECT!

Step 5

Effects - Plugins - Filters Unlimited 2.0 -

VM Extravaganza - Shoutin'!... - with these settings:

Selections - Select none.

Effects - Geometric effects - Perspective vertical - with these settings:

Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

Image - Canvas size - with these settings:

Step 6

Copy tube 'knopjekerstbal_MBR'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image - see image below:

Step 7

Layers - Merge - Merge visible.

Edit - Cut - Edit - Paste as a new image.

Save your christmas ball in picture tube.

File - Export - Picture tube - name it and save it.

 

CHRISTMAS TREE

 

Step 1

Open a new transparent image of 500 x 600 pixels.

Set your background to gradient 'Foreground-background' -

Linear - Angle 90 - Repeats 1 - Invert not checked.

Set your foreground to gold pattern 'gold_embrossed_bg' - Angle 0 - Scale 100.

Step 2

Activate your Preset Shape - Cone - with these settings:

Make a shape - see image below:

Layers - Convert to raster layer.

Step 3

Activate your Warp brush tool - with these settings for PSP X4:

And these settings for PSP X2:

For PSP 9: Activate your Mesh Warp - horizontal 15 - Vertical 10.

Drag very careful a piece of the bottom edge inside - see image below:

The result you can see on the image below below:

Step 4

Move the cone down.

Layers - Duplicate.

Image - Resize - 85% - All layers not checked.

Move this duplicate layer a little up.

Step 5

Layers - Duplicate.

Image - Resize - 85% - All layers not checked.

Move this duplicate layer a little up.

Repeat this until you have 6 cones.

Layers - Merge - Merge visible.

Step 6

Activate your Picture tube tool - find the 'goudenster' - scale 70.

Layers - New raster layer.

Paste the star on top of the Christmas tree.

Layers - Merge - Merge visible.

Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

Save your tree as a psp image or as an animation shop image.

 

MAIN PICTURE

 

Step 1

Open a new transparent image of 900 x 600 pixels.

Set your foreground to gradient 'Foreground-background' - Linear - Angle 45 - Repeats 1 - Invert checked.

Flood fill your image with this gradient.

Effects - Plugins - Filters Unlimited 2.0 - Distortion Filters - Surface Tension - default settings.

Repeat this plugin 1x.

Effects - Edge effects - Enhance.

Step 2

Copy tube 'raamwerk_MBR'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Click with your Magic wand outside the window.

Selections - Invert.

Step 3

Layers - New raster layer.

Layers - Arrange - Move down.

Copy image 'xmas-030'.

Back to your working image - paste into the selection.

Selections - Select none.

Step 4

Activate your top layer.

Layers - New raster layer.

Activate your Picture tube - find Spruce - with these settings:

Click around your window till it's filled with pine sprigs - at your choice of course.

Step 5

Activate your Pen tool - with these settings:

Draw a gold line in the middle - see image below:

Layers - Convert to raster layer.

Step 6

Activate your Picture tube - find your Christmas ball - scale 15.

Layers - New raster layer.

Place the ball down the line.

Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

Layers - Merge - Merge down.

Step 7

Open tube 'bows051-sandi'.

Copy the bow you like.

If your color isn't there you can colorize it.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Resize - 4x 80% - All layers not checked.

Step 8

Place the bow on top of the golden line.

Layers - Merge - Merge down.

Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

Step 9

Layers - Duplicate - repeat 1x.

Place one to the left side and the other to the right side - see main image.

Make sure that these to balls are a little lower than the middle one.

Layers - Merge - Merge down - repeat 1x.

Step 10

Copy your Christmas tree.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Place the tree on the left side - see main image

Step 11

Copy tube 'versiering'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Place it on bottom layer of the tree.

Layers - Duplicate.

Place this one on the third layer of the tree.

Layers - Duplicate.

Place this one on the fifth layer of the tree.

Move them until you like it.

Don't worry if they are over the tree.

You'll change that in step 13.

Step 12

Make sure your top layer is active.

Layers - Merge - Merge down - repeat 1x.

Activate your tree layer.

Selections - Select all.

Selections - Float - Selections - De-float.

Step 13

Activate your merged layers of the decoration.

Selections - Modify - Contract - 5 pixels.

Selections - Invert - press Delete.

The decoration that was over the tree is gone.

Selections - Select none.

Step 14

Activate your bottom layer.

Selections - Select all.

Image - Crop to selection.

Step 15

Activate your top layer.

Layers - Merge - Merge down.

Effects - 3D effects - Drop shadow:

Vert and Hor 5 - Opacity 40 - Blur 10 - color black.

Step 16

You are making lines without your Pen tool.

Open a new transparent image of 5 x 250 pixels (you can also use 3 x 250 pixels).

Flood fill this image with your gold pattern.

Edit - Copy.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Place it upper right.

Layers - Duplicate - repeat 1x.

See main image for placing.

Make sure the outer lines are shorter than the middle one.

Step 17

Activate your Picture tube - find your Christmas ball - Scale 35.

Layers - New raster layer.

Place the ball on the left line.

Layers - Duplicate.

Place this one on the right line.

Layers - Duplicate.

Place this one on the middle line.

Step 18

Activate the top layer.

Layers - Merge - Merge down - repeat 1x.

Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

layers - Arrange - Move down.

Step 19

Make sure the line layer is active.

Layers - Merge - Merge down.

Effects - 3D effects - Drop shadow - same settings as before.

Step 20

Activate the layer below the window.

Copy tube 'Liza tube staande kerstman'.

Paste as a new layer on your working image.

Image - Resize - 5x 80% - All layers not checked.

Move him a little to the right.

Effects - 3D effects - Drop shadow - same settings as before.

Step 21

Close the 3 bottom layers (the landscape, the window and Santa).

Make sure one of the other layers is active.

Layers - Merge - Merge visible.

Close the Merged layer.

Open the other layers and activate one of them.

Layers - Merge - Merge visible.

Step 22

Layers - New raster layer.

Selections - Select all.

Flood fill this layer with your gold pattern.

Selections - Modify - Contract - 2 pixels.

Press Delete - Selections - Select none.

Layers - Merge - Merge down.

Activate your Text tool - font Florentine Cursive RR Old Style Figures - Size 100 - Make as Vector - with these settings:

For PSP 9 the size is '72'.

Close your foreground color.

Set your background to your gold pattern.

Type 'Merry' - click Add.

Place it right below - or at your choice.

Type 'Christmas'.

Place it right below under Merry - see main image - or at your choice.

Layers - Merge - Merge down.

Effects - 3D effects - Drop shadow - same settings as before.

Step 24

Layers - New raster layer.

Add your name and/or watermark.

Layers - Convert to raster layer.

Step 25

Close the bottom layer.

Activate one of the other layers.

Layers - Merge - Merge visible.

Open the bottom layer.

Step 26

Activate the bottom merged layer.

Edit - Copy.

To AS: Edit - Paste - As a new animation.

Click 1x Ctrl+C - click now 19x Ctrl+L.

You now have 20 frames.

Click in frame 1 - Edit - Select all.

Step 27

Open animation 'sneeuw' in AS.

Click in frame 1 - Edit - Select all - Edit - Copy.

Back to your main animation.

Edit - Paste - Into selected frame.

Go to the scenery and paste it in the lower left corner.

Repeat this until you have paste the snow 4x.

Step 28

Back to PSP.

Copy the top merged layer.

To AS: Edit - Paste - As a new animation.

Edit - Copy.

Step 29

Back to your main animation.

Press Propagate paste.

Edit - Paste - Into selected frame.

Make sure it fits well.

Step 30

View - Animation.

You now can see how your animation looks.

If you are satisfied:

Save your crea as a gif file and you're done!
